Vehicle Description 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible, Period Correct 396/350 HP Big Block, Muncie 4-Speed, Cranberry Red, Same Family Since 1974 There are few American muscle cars more iconic than a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible. Combining breathtaking styling, big block performance, and open-air cruising, these cars represent the pinnacle of Chevrolet's muscle car era. This stunning example is exactly the type of Chevelle enthusiasts dream about finished in its correct Cranberry Red color combination, equipped with a period-correct 396 big block backed by a Muncie 4-speed, and carrying an incredible ownership history that spans more than five decades. Finished in its correct Color Code 75 Cranberry Red, this Chevelle has just received a beautiful, high-quality repaint that captures the deep, rich appearance of one of Chevrolet's most desirable colors. Complementing the striking exterior is the correct Trim Code 791 Ivory bucket seat interior, creating one of the most elegant and sought-after factory color combinations available in 1970. Topping it all off is a white power convertible top that operates beautifully and completes the classic muscle car look. One of the most remarkable aspects of this Chevelle is its history. Prior to our acquisition, the car had remained in the same family since 1974. The previous owners shared stories of enjoying the car for decades and even remembered the unfortunate day the original engine was discarded many years ago. While the original engine is long gone, the car now benefits from an excellent period-correct 396 big block that has just been professionally refreshed, allowing it to be enjoyed exactly as a true Chevelle SS Convertible should be. Another chapter in this car's story came when we acquired it. Remarkably, it was still wearing what we believe to be its original factory lacquer paint. Considering how exceptionally straight, solid, and rust-free the body already was, we wrestled with the decision of whether to preserve the original finish or restore it. Cars with original lacquer paint and this level of body integrity are becoming increasingly rare. In the end, we chose to preserve the car's legacy by refinishing it in its correct Color Code 75 Cranberry Red using a high-quality professional paint job. The result is stunning, highlighting the laser-straight body panels and exceptional craftsmanship while remaining faithful to the way this Chevelle left the factory. Under the functional Cowl Induction hood sits a freshly refreshed period-correct 396 cubic inch big block V8 producing 350 horsepower. The engine was recently gone through and performs exceptionally well, delivering the unmistakable sound, torque, and excitement that made Chevrolet's big block Chevelles legendary. Power is transferred through a desirable Muncie 4-speed manual transmission to a rugged 12-bolt rear axle carrying the correct CCF code with 3.31 gears and Posi-Traction, providing the perfect balance of highway cruising and spirited performance. The quality of this Chevelle extends far beyond its cosmetics. The body is exceptionally straight with excellent panel fit, while the frame and floors are immaculate. It is evident that this car has been carefully preserved throughout its life, providing an outstanding foundation that is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Inside, the driver is greeted by comfortable Ivory bucket seats, a center console, factory tachometer and gauges, and the unmistakable cockpit of one of Chevrolet's greatest muscle cars. Every detail reflects the timeless styling that continues to make the 1970 Chevelle one of the most desirable American performance cars ever built. The exterior is completed by factory-style 14-inch SS wheels wrapped in Firestone Wide Oval tires, giving the car exactly the stance and appearance enthusiasts expect. A great-sounding dual exhaust system provides the perfect soundtrack, producing the deep big block rumble that turns heads wherever this Chevelle goes. Equ |
